Why storage matters
Peptides are biological molecules sensitive to heat, light and repeated freezing. Even a top-tier peptide with HPLC purity of ≥ 99% can lose some potency if exposed to unsuitable conditions. Proper storage is therefore just as important as manufacturing quality — and it is the one part of the chain fully within your control.
The basic rules
Temperature of 2–8 °C
Store both unopened and opened peptide pens in the refrigerator at 2–8 °C. The ideal spot is the main compartment of the fridge, not the door (where the temperature fluctuates most) and not against the back wall (where freezing can occur).
Never freeze
Freezing is one of the worst risks for a peptide in solution — the formation of ice crystals can damage the molecule. If a pen accidentally freezes, do not use it. So watch out for the back wall of the fridge and the freezer.
Protect from light
Keep the pen in its original packaging, which protects it from light. UV and intense light accelerate the breakdown of sensitive peptides.
The cold chain at delivery
A peptide is most vulnerable during transport. A quality supplier ships in thermo-insulated packaging with a cooling pack, which maintains the temperature for the duration of ordinary delivery. But once you receive it, the clock is ticking:
- Open the shipment as soon as possible after receipt.
- Move the pen to the refrigerator immediately (2–8 °C).
- Don't leave the package sitting in a car, in the sun, or near a heater.

Stability after opening
After first use (attaching the needle and applying), a pen is usually stable for several weeks at 2–8 °C; the exact period varies by the specific peptide — you'll find an indicative value on the packaging or in the batch certificate.
